Frequently Asked Questions

Which shapefile files do I upload?
Drop the .shp file together with its .dbf file (the attribute table) and its .prj file (the coordinate system), either as loose files or in one ZIP. No need to zip them yourself. Sidecar files such as .shx or .cpg can come along. Folders inside a ZIP are fine. If the upload holds several shapefiles, only the first .shp is converted.
Does my shapefile need to be in WGS 84?
No. If the ZIP includes the .prj file, coordinates in projected systems such as UTM, State Plane or national grids are converted to WGS 84 longitude/latitude (EPSG:4326) automatically. Without a .prj file, coordinates are copied as-is, so they must already be longitude/latitude.
How do I convert Shapefile to TopoJSON?
